As the speed reducers perform their intended functions, they will easily obtain torque that is proportional to the deceleration ratio. Cutting the rotational speed into half allows the speed reducers to double the amount of torque.
Most Basic Types of Speed Reducers
Speed reducers can have different shapes and sizes. They also come in a wide variety of types that are utilised in industries today. Some of the most basic types of speed reducers are the following:
- Parallel Axis Gear Speed Reducer: This type of speed reducer typically works with a spur gear. Power with parallel axis gear speed reducer is carried out by rolling, allowing it to secure a transmission efficiency of around 98% per stage.
- Helical Speed Reducer: Helical speed reducer is somehow similar to the previous type. It is, however, uses helical gears that have twisted tooth trace. The presence of helical gears allows this type of speed reducer to transmit power smoothly and quietly.
- Worm Speed Reducer: Aworm speed reducer is comprised of a worm gear and a worm wheel. The integration of these components allows this type of speed reducer to obtain a large deceleration ratio of about 1/10 to 1/60.
- Bevel Gear Speed Reducer: This type of speed reducer is normally combined with a bevel gear, which can work effectively at an angle of 90°.
- Hypoid Speed Reducer: Hypoid speed reducer has a gear that can offset the centre of a pinion gear axis. This composition allows it to add slip to the power transmission of spiral bevel gears, which can be similar to the way worm speed reducer works.
